Hello and Welcome to my devotional blog for Christian women who may be experiencing a trial or challenge in their faith, “Blessed is anyone who perseveres under trial” (James 1:3).

Today’s thought…

Does God Have favourites?

*Would you be able to accept it if He did?

*Would you still love Him the same if this were true?

*Would you seek to be His favourite?

*What would you be willing to do to be one?

There is something that is so seriously sad for me, and it is when God’s nature is being changed or distorted from who He really is.

Moses said, “show me your ways so that I may know you” We can only see those ways by reading about them in God’s word. Moses understood that by knowing God’s ways, he would know Him; what He is like; who He really is.

If we are not reading His word for ourselves, we will gradually be acquiring a distorted view of God. The word is where everything is displayed and revealed about Him; His actions, His decisions. His nature is shown there; what He does and why; what He prefers and why; the people He chose, and why.

It is an easy thing to be able to tell if someone is reading the Word for themselves. If they aren’t, when they speak about God, it is nothing like the God of the Bible. Sometimes I have felt when with someone, that we have different Gods!

I myself, have to be certain that I am worshipping and speaking to the very God of the Bible, and not a god of my own making or imagination . Reading the word is also a protection against becoming a deceived ones in the last days.

‘Experiences’ are great. We all have them. I have mine. But our experiences will all be different from each others. But we must have the same God, the only true God! God never changes.

I am so excited when I go to read His word. With my journal and pen at hand, I am ready to write down anything new I might learn about Him that day, and I am hardly ever disappointed. There is so much about Him there!

It is a terrifying thought that we could have a ‘god of our own making’ or imagination, and there are hundreds of them out there. Little things get added on about Him, until He is nowhere near like the God He is.

You see, some people can’t take God for who He is. Some try to make Him a more ‘palatable’ God. Then some try to make Him a more ‘scary God! So it is important we get it right, or we could actually be saying untruths about Him!

I have just ‘unsubscribed’ from a well-known author’s blog. It is one I have been subscribed to for a while. When I unsubscribed, she asked me to tell her why. So I did. It was because she had written a devotional saying God doesn’t have favourites or show favour.

It is impossible to read God’s word from cover to cover and believe this (I will put a list of His favourites and favour in another blog). Also, we were made in the image of God – and if we are honest, we too have favourites in our families. We love our children and grandchildren equally, but that is something different from having a favourite.

God does have favourites. His word says He does.

God does show favour. His word says He does.

Are You One Of God’s Favourites?

What would you be willing to do – to be one of God’s favourites?

Actually, there is absolutely nothing we can do to be one! Thankfully it is not down to us at all, and has nothing do with what we do! There is no way that we can earn God’s favour. We can of course please or displease Him, which is a different matter, but it won’t make us His favourite.

There is a secret ‘something’ to being one of God’s favourites. His favourites in the Bible all had this ‘something’ in common. That secret something is in my latest book, ‘Daughters Under Trial’

YOU could already be one of God’s favourites, but you will not be aware of it, just as those privileged ones in the Bible weren’t.

You will know immediately if you are one of God’s favourites, when you read a devotional message in ‘Daughters Under Trial’

Hello and Welcome to my devotional blog for Christian women who may be experiencing a trial or challenge in their faith, “Blessed is anyone who perseveres under trial” (James 1:3).

Can Satan Love?

As many of you and my friends know, my burden for a long time has been for women going through a challenge in their faith. Yet even though I knew that my writing and devotionals were being a blessing to others, I found it so difficult to promote my books. It felt like promoting me and I couldn’t do it! But now I feel different. It isn’t promoting myself at all! This was a lie from satan! It is the Lord who has stirred up a gift within me, giving me the ability to express His word in a particular way; and it is His living word that I am promoting. It is His living word that is blessing and touching others. It is His living word that is helping them through their own particular trial. It is only His living word that can give people hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. It is His word that will never return to Him void. So now, I feel it would be wrong to ‘hide-under-a- bushel’ so to speak – the task the Lord has given me to do, which is to promote His living word.

This is all what matters: Sisters in Christ are finding comfort, being helped, uplifted, blessed – and also challenged, through the devotional messages the Lord puts on my heart. I realise now, that I have to get my books out there each time I hear how something in its pages has made someone’s walk with the Lord an even better or easier one. We all need some help along the way!

So what gift lies deep within you that needs ‘stirring up’ that could help and bless your sisters in Christ!? We need all the encouragement we can get from one another!! I love Christian women who encourage one another. It is displaying a fruit of the Spirit… kindness.

Don’t let satan, age, circumstances, trials, persecution, or…. even past mistakes deter you from stirring up that gift. God used everyday, ordinary people like you and me. They were not perfect. You only have to read the Bible to see that. The only thing they had in common was – pure motives. They just wanted to be God’s obedient servant. They didn’t want to be ‘known.’ They didn’t want to be famous. They didn’t want to be wealthy, even though God did choose to abundantly bless some of them.

We are here to serve God by serving one another and to help someone along as best as we are able. Satan hates this!!

I am in Psalms at the moment. I never ‘search’ for Scriptures even when I am in need. Whatever has happened in my day, I still carry on in the Scripture from where I left off the day before, and how I have proved His word is relevant and alive! For a very long time now, I have read the Bible through, from Genesis-Revelation, and I highly recommend reading the word this way. I am speechless at how God speaks such relevance through His word, even from Chronicles or Numbers – into my current situation; a situation that may have only arisen that very morning, and without having ‘searched’ the Scriptures for an answer! When I look over my journals and see just how He has spoken into my daily situation, I am speechless. His word is ALIVE!

I just want to show how deep God’s love and concern is for us. Today, I went into my reading feeling somewhat weepy that I had let down the Lord this week. I was sad before Him. But this was in my reading: “He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. Just as a father has compassion on his children. So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. For He himself knows our frame. He is mindful that we are but dust”(Psalm 103:11, 13,14).

Can Satan love?

Yes he can and does!!

If we aim to love the things satan hates! Then we won’t ever need to ask, “Am I serving the Lord?” Or… “How can I serve the Lord?” We will really know, when we hate what Satan hates that we really are serving the Lord.

Satan loves strife, bitterness, unkindness, discouraging, destructive gossip, lies, jealousy, hatred.

Satan hates people being kind to one another, love, encouragement, caring, helping, loving, forgiving, peace, honesty.

Let’s aim to love the things satan hates! Then we won’t ever need to ask, “Am I serving the Lord?” Or… “How can I serve the Lord?” We will really know, when we hate what Satan hates that we really are serving the Lord.

The Lord is on our side! Satan doesn’t want us to believe it! This is another thing Satan hates… truth!

God bless you.

Hello and Welcome to my devotional blog for Christian women who may be experiencing a trial or challenge in their faith, “Blessed is anyone who perseveres under trial” (James 1:3).

Future trials to be addressed:

>The Test Most Christians Can’t and Dont’ Pass.

>The Test of… acceptance.

>Does God Have Favourites?

>Why We Need To Be Spiritual Detectives.

>The Test Of Being Tested.

>A Last Day Test.

>Have You Ever Been Betrayed?

>When You Have To Lose Your Good Reputation.

>Consequences Of Our Weaknesses.

>But Why Do We Have To Be Tested?

>The Test… of patience!

>The Test… of keeping quiet!

>The Test… of delighting the Lord.

Just How Worldly Are We? Worldliness has often been a list of do’s and don’ts for many Christians. I believe there has been a lot of misunderstanding about worldliness. Worldliness is taking on a trend from the present age and bringing it into the Church, often for fear of being ‘left behind’ or not attracting new people into the church. Various worldly concepts that have infiltrated the church can be clearly traced. One example is self-esteem. I don’t believe in self-esteem when the scripture is opposed to it. Self esteem is often confused with confidence (of which I wish I had more of!).

Jealousy. Jealousy is a ‘deed of the flesh.’ The scripture calls it an immaturity and it is listed in Galatians alongside immorality and impurity! How scary is that!

Hello & Welcome to my devotional blog for Christian women who may be experiencing a trial or challenge in their faith, “Blessed is anyone who perseveres under trial” James 1:3.

Don’t Be A Fool!

Twenty Two Signs of A Fool.

At sometime or other, we all fail and make mistakes and will have displayed some of the signs of a fool. However, that doesn’t make us a fool… it means we have behaved like one! When we have done something foolish, we need to acknowledge it, ask for forgiveness, and learn by it. The difference is…. a fool never does!

Jesus said… “I do not condemn you either. Go, from now sin no more” (John 8:11). Obviously, Jesus couldn’t have meant … don’t ever sin again! That would be impossible. He had to be referring to the same sin. Not to be a repeater of the same.

1. A fool never learns by his mistakes: “Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly” (Proverbs 26:11).

2. A fool is often drunk: “Strong drink is a brawler. And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise” (Proverbs 20:1).

3. A fool is an angry person : “A fool always loses his temper” (Proverbs 29:11)

4. A fool doesn’t cope with disagreement: “When a wise man has controversy with a foolish man. The foolish man either rages or laughs” (Proverbs 29:9).

5. A fool is a ‘know-it-all: “Fools despise wisdom and instruction (I.e. direction) Proverbs 1:7.

6. A fool’s words catch him out: “The lips of a fool consume (I.e. destroy) him” (Ecclesiastes 10:12).

7. A fool is argumentative: “Any fool will quarrel ( i.e. burst out)“ Proverbs 20:3.

8. A fool is big-headed and lacks empathy: “A fool is arrogant (i.e. full of himself) and careless (i.e. shows no concern)” ( Proverbs 14:16)

9. A fool talks silly: “A fool speaks nonsense and is inclined towards wickedness ” (Isaiah 32:6).

10. A fool has no direction: “And it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, And fools will not wander on it” (Isaiah 35:8).

11. A fool is taken up with himself: “A fool doesn’t delight in understanding, But only revealing his own mind” (Proverbs 18:2).

12. A fool doesn’t listen: “A rebuke goes deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred blows into a fool” (Proverbs 17:10).

13. A fool is lazy and soon tired: “The toil of a fool wearies him” (Ecclesiastes 10:15).

14. A fool treats life as a joke: “Doing wrong is like sport to a fool” ( Proverbs 10:23).

15. A fool cannot accept he can be wrong: “ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes”(Proverbs 12:15).

16. A fool takes things out on others: “Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs, Rather than fool in his folly”( Proverbs 17:12).

17. A fool refuses to change: “Though you pound a fool in a mortar with a pestle… yet his foolishness will not depart from him” (Proverbs 27 :22).

18. A fool will choose the wrong way: “A wise man’s heart directs him toward the right, but a foolish man’s heart directs him towards the left” (Ecclesiastes 10:2).

19. A fool doesn’t care about God: “The fool has said in his heart, There is no God” (Psalm 14: 1).

20. A fool is a gossip and tells lies: “He who spreads slander is a fool” (Proverbs 10:18).

21. A fool lives for pleasure: “You fool! This very night your soul is required of you” (Luke 12:13-20)

22. “LEAVE THE PRESENCE OF A FOOL… or you will not discern words of knowledge” (Proverbs 14:7).

I love the story of Abigail in 1 Samuel 25. I admire her so much. So much so, I wanted one of my granddaughters to be named Abigail, and it is her second name, Katrina Abigail. Poor Abigail in the Bible was married to a fool. She had every right to leave him. Perhaps she didn’t have the resources to be able to do so; or maybe she knew their farm would deteriorate without her wisdom and hard work; or perhaps she just had the courage or the faith, to stay with a fool called Nabal! It has to be that his mother mustn’t have known the meaning of his name when she gave it to him as a baby! Nabal certainly lived up to his name.

Nabal, didn’t deserve this intelligent, honest, hard-working, spiritual wife. She had to wait until he was asleep to get a little peace, because he was a drunk and a trouble maker. She lived a miserable lonely life and spent most of her time getting Nabal out of trouble. No-one could reason with Nabal. It had to be Abigail to plead with David to stop the disaster that was to befall them because of Nabal’s stupidity, blindness, ungratefulness, and inhospitality to those who had been good to him. She even asked David to put the blame on her!

She told David… “My husband is a FOOL – and that is the meaning of his name!”

God made up to Abigail all the years ‘the locust had eaten’, She accepted David’s proposal of marriage after the death of Nabal, and enjoyed the most tremendous and well blessed life – for her sheer endurance.

Hello & Welcome to my devotional blog for Christian women who may be experiencing a trial or challenge in their faith, “Blessed is anyone who perseveres under trial” James 1:3.

How Old Are You?

I love babies! I would love to say I ’adore’ babies, but I realise the word ‘adore’ belongs to the Lord. However, I do get besotted with babies and toddlers. In fact I love children whatever their age. I love to watch all the silly things toddlers do though – which is acceptable because they are… well, only babies! I thought I would shrivel up and die when I had an empty nest.

When I am out it takes me all my time, not to touch and ‘google’ at someone’s baby, or tussle the hair of a child. They are such fascinating, innocent little beings that melt me.

I have been privileged to see my new baby granddaughter not too long ago. She just had her first birthday, and how she had changed from the last time we saw her.

She is at that stage where she ’copies.’ I ’clapped hands’ and she copied me. I ’blew a kiss’ and waved and she copied that. In fact there is a lists of things that little people do, and here are just a few…

*They copy.

*They repeat.

*They get pleasure from making big noises! Like banging a spoon in a bowl!

*They get pleasure from making funny sounds that no-one understands because they are practising speaking their language.

* They cry a lot!

*They love milk!

*They love bland food!

*They love attention!

And when they grow a little bit older…

*They can develop jealousy – of a brother or sister.

*They quarrel and fight.

*Some won’t eat ‘proper’ food – they like or demand the same thing over and again… like their fish fingers, or crisps.

* They love attention!

Do you know any Christians like this in church?

“When I became a man (i.e, mature/an adult) I did away with childish things. (1 Cor 13:11)

‘How Old Are You’… in the Spirit?

What are the childish things that we should be putting away in the Spiritual?

Are we still 5 years old…. 10 years old…. 15 years old… yet were ‘born again’ or came to know the Lord 10, 20, 25 years, ago?

I have to admit. That I find it disconcerting when someone who has known the Lord for years, still behaves like a child Spiritually. It seems strange to see and ‘older’ Christian portraying the childish behaviour of a newborn, yet were ‘born’ (again) years ago.

We can check how old we are; how we have grown; how we have matured – against the Word.

The Word shows many things to check if we are still a baby in the Lord, or if we are growing into some maturity.

It is only babies who need ’milk.’ Paul called the Corinthians ‘infants’ and told them he couldn’t give them any solid food (deeper truths) and could only give them milk because they were still ‘infants.’ Why? Because they were quarrelling like children do! And Paul also told them that it was ’worldly behaviour’ (1 Cor 3).

If we are to grow ‘older’ in the Lord, and are to come to maturity in Him, then we are to choose not to display childish traits, “I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child. But when I became a man (i.e mature/an adult) I did away with childish things” (1 Cor 13:11)

We are also to, “study God’s Word to show you are approved” (2 Tim 2:15).

There is so much friction in some churches, and between some Christians, and mostly it is because someone is portraying childish behaviour, which Paul says is worldliness. I was brought up to believe that worldliness was what we put on our bodies (and the Bible does say that women should dress modest) but worldliness goes beyond that. Not to be worldly, is not to behave like a child.

Babies disrupt…. because they are just babies! Little people quarrel, fight, and make lots of noise… because they are just little people. Little children like to be the centre of attention… because, they are only little people. The trouble parents will have to deal with most when their little ones are playing with other children, is that there will usually be one child who wants to be in control of all the others – and they will try and try to get it! One of them will want the power over all of them. One of them will want to be in charge. One will want all of the attention, not just some of it! But this is because… they are only ‘babies’ or little people/children, and they can and will grow out of it. Sadly, there are some ’old’ ‘babies’ in the Lord who cause congregations, individuals, and Pastors so much similar heartache, and should know better and grow out of childish behaviour. Let us be brave enough to recognise them as immature and aim to be the opposite, and aim to grow up daily in the Lord.

“Show courtesy to everyone” (Titus 3:2).

Paul’s great mission was to present his converts to the Lord ’mature,’ (Col 1:28), and that’s why he got so upset with the childish behaviour of some ‘mature’ Christians who should have known better.

There are things God cannot teach us, cannot show us, cannot lead us into, if we are still ‘babies’ in Christ, and Paul told the Corinthians this sad truth. So he made it clear to them, how they were missing out.

But! There is ONE childish behaviour that we should portray, and it is this, from the words of Jesus Himself… “I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child, will not enter it at all” (Mark 10:15).

If there is one thing about that I love most about a child, it is their innocence. There is an age of a child when they will believe anything they are told … like Santa Clause!

When it comes to the promises of God, and His word… we should be the same! We should believe and accept as an innocent child does. It is called Faith!

God Bless you!

Hello & Welcome to my devotional blog for Christian women who may be experiencing a trial or challenge in their faith, “Blessed is anyone who perseveres under trial” (James 1:3).

“We Don’t Know What To Do!

Have you ever felt like this!?

>Have you ever felt totally powerless in a situation and don’t know what to do!?

>Have you ever had to make a sudden quick decision about something that there hasn’t even been time to pray about which way to turn?

>Have you ever felt in a no-win situation so don’t know what decision to make?

If you have ever been confronted with a sudden and unexpected or tough circumstance, when there is hardly time to even pray about it because the situation needs immediate action, I can sympathise with you. Personally, I hate having to make tough and sudden decisions. Prayer is my greatest guidance and protection against making mistakes. I gain such comfort from praying about something for as long as it takes. So if something needs immediate action I can feel somewhat out of control.

Sometimes, when I or my husband haven’t know what to do, or which way to turn, we have admitted, “Lord, we just don’t know what to do!“ If or when I have had to make a quick choice, or decision, and I have made the wrong one – I just cannot seem to forgive myself or get over it quickly. It wasn’t that I couldn’t wait. As far as waiting is concerned – I can pray and wait for as long as it takes for some guidance or an answer. Prayer is my safety net! But if an unexpected situation crops up, and something has to be done about it there and then… I almost panic. I somehow feel too in charge of my own life… hence, I don’t like unexpected serious situations!

However, I am married! So I am blessed that all ultimate decisions belong to my husband! It’s as if God gave us women a way out! I have been so grateful at times for that scripture, “wives be in subjection to your own husband.” This has to be one of my favourite Scriptures because it has excluded me from so much responsiblity! It’s a great way to live. However, sometimes, I have had situations of my own, and decisions of my own to make that have concerned only me.

Yet, surely, God expects us to behave like spiritually mature people, and to use the good brain He made us with. For example, if a 30-year-old was still asking their parents the same small things as when they were a toddler; and if they still had to look to their parents about every situation they faced, it would be a sad sign that they haven’t matured to adulthood, or gained any knowledge of life, or learned any independence or guidance of their own. This would be somewhat disconcerting right?

If ever I have had to make a snap decision and it was a wrong one, I usually say…. “O Lord, please make the ‘curse’ (wrong decision/choice) into a blessing!” This Scripture comes from Nehemiah 13:2 the story of Balaam in Numbers 22 when he cursed Israel. But God turned the curse into a blessing. And He can!

If you have made some wrong choices in your life…. don’t despair! We all have, but God can turn the tables to our advantage. God can turn our messes into something beautiful. He loves His creation. He formed us. He breathed His very life into us. We are part of Him. His Spirit dwells within us if we are a daughter of the heavenly Father. He can teach us so much even from our mistakes

Sometimes, a parent has to stand by when their maturing offspring is becoming of age and has to allow them to make mistakes sometimes. It is all part of life and maturity. The Lord too, has to expect some spiritual maturity from us. I like to seek/ask the Lord about everything!! But – I must also realise that sometimes I will have to make a decision for myself if there hasn’t been time to privately consult my heavenly Father about it, or if He has chosen to be silent about a matter.

Our heavenly Father is not waiting to catch us out! Yes, He wants us to make right choices. But if, and when, we are in a situation, and we just haven’t heard from Him; or if the problem needs immediate action but we don’t know what to do….. then we will just have to do what Jehoshaphat did…

Jehoshaphat was in trouble! He had been warned that his enemies were coming after him, to make war with him! They were the sons of Moab and the sons of Ammon. They told him that it would be a great multitude!

Jehoshaphat was terrified. All of Judah was terrified too, “All Judah was standing before the Lord, with their infants, their wives, and their children” (2 Chronicles 20:13).

Jehoshaphat admitted to them all: “We are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; we don’t know what to do!”

But here is the rest of his sentence: … BUT… our eyes are on YOU” (2 Chronicles 20:20)

It was so humble and so honest on the part of Jehoshaphat to admit to everyone that he didn’t know what to do!

If you have a huge ’mountain’ that has unexpectedly loomed up in front of you… and you just don’t know what to do - try doing what Jehoshaphat did.

1. He admitted that he didn’t know what to do – and admitted it to everyone! This was being really humble, which God loves.

2. He proclaimed a fast throughout Judah.

3. His eyes looked to the Lord.

These days, Jehoshapaht’s confession of not knwoing what to do, would have been seen as a lack of faith. That’s why many are leaving the faith these days. They get disappointed when they have followed what people have taught them to do concerning faith – and when it all went wrong, and didn’t bring the results they expected, they backslide. Too much honesty has gone out of our Christianity. We shouldn’t be afraid to admit our feelings.

An answer did come for Jehoshaphat and it was from Jahaziel in 2 Chronicles 20:14-16. See it there for yourself.

God bless you.

Hello & Welcome to my blog for Christian women who may be experiencing a trial or challenge in their faith, “Blessed is anyone who perseveres under trial” (James 1:3).

Help! I’m terrified”

This was the heading of an email someone sent privately through my blog. I will call this person ‘Valerie.’

My heart went out to her. Her email was so full of anguish and fear.

I didn’t think I could be of any help to Valerie’ in her situation. But my heart went out to her . I felt the only thing I knew to do, was to pray for her, so I was doing so daily – using her real name of course. I wanted and longed for her to know she was wrong.

After a week or two of praying for ‘Valerie’ I felt a sudden and unexpected release to address her problem. During my time of praying for her, the Lord gave me some positive answers concerning her dilemma.

The Lord brought to mind, how there was someone in the Bible just like Valerie!

However it would be impossible for me to write it all here on this blog, and how I was able to help Valerie from the Scriptures.

This devotional message to Valerie is in my latest book, ‘Daughters Under Trial‘ along with other dilemmas that Christian women have faced in their faith.

Hello & Welcome to my devotional blog for Christian women who may be experiencing a trial or challenge in their faith, “Blessed is anyone who perseveres under trial” (James 1:3).

Pray for this campaign…

We all know that in Great Britain at least – that us Christians are being discriminated against! It has got so serious, that Christians are starting to fight back.

Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey, is to launch a campaign aimed at… “speaking up” for Christian values in public life!

Lord Carey will give his backing to the Christian concern “Not Ashamed Day” urging Christians to “wear their faith with pride” in the face of alleged attempts to “airbrush” them from public life!

The former Archbishop will unveil a leaflet as part of the campaign warning that Britain’s Christian culture is “under attack.”

He says, “I am proud of our tradition of tolerance and our historic commitment to welcoming the stranger. Yet what many people don’t realise is - that it is the Christian faith that underpins these great strengths and that has enriched our nation in so many ways. However, this rich legacy is under attack. In spite of having contributed to our civilisation and providing the foundation, the Christian faith is in danger of being subtly brushed aside.”

At last! Here is someone with some influence who is going to stand up for our rights as Christians! Pray for this.

You can leave a comment by clicking on ‘add a comment’ Your comment will go public on this blog
